I started the "Hermetic Drone" series in late 2012 (the series title is a direct reference to John Zorn's "Hermetic Organ" concerts). My original vision was to release four volumes in close succession... I had completed the packaging for all four volumes and had initial drafts for all four tunes. Volume I was finished within a few days of starting it. Then, I bounced back between volumes II and III for a while - trying out different arrangements and sounds; but never really settling on anything definitive. I KNOW when I have found the right vibe and sounds when I make ambient music. So, if I have to search for a while that is fine, because when everything falls into place it is magic!
In late January 2013 my daughter Adeline was born. As a result most of my music projects went on hold for a bit. One that didn't go on hold was "For Adeline." I worked tirelessly on that song to make sure it was done for her when she came home from St. Luke's Hospital! When I picked "HD II" back up again, I found the Chris's to generously donate some of their time to add a little flavor to "HD II." With their contributions the piece finally found what it needed. I messed with the arrangement and mix for a few months before settling on what is now on band camp.
Trying to make music while learning how to be a father for the first time was daunting, inspiring, and ultimately rewarding. Adeline sat with me through the mixing process of this cd/download. During this process is when I developed my new working schedule - very early in the morning (usually by 5:30 a.m.) or later at night once my daughter was in bed. For now gone are the days (for now) when I can spend all weekend obsessing over a mix or an arrangement!
Maybe some day I will complete the other two albums in the series... but for now it has been put aside to focus on some other projects I have in the works.
Thanks for taking the time to listen!
